I can’t let heart health month go by without reminding all of you to take care of yourself, get yourself checked frequently with a doctor, and listen to your body, always! #AmandaMiddleton #faithblog #wordsoftruth #WearRed #HeartHealthMonth #hearthealth #hearthealthyMy Heart Health Story

This picture (below) was taken after one of my five heart surgeries last year. (I can’t remember which. They are all a blur.) I wasn’t a happy camper in this picture, but I knew I was blessed to be alive and still am!

This month is Heart Health month, and this year and month mean so much more to me. It reminds me that technically I should be dead, but I am not! I know that sounds rather dramatic and maybe a little morbid, but it’s the total truth. (No sugar coating here!) I am alive and kicking it with a louder voice than ever before. The doctors and insurance companies were pretty baffled by my condition and what to do with me, but as I look back I’m grateful that God had another plan. A plan of redemption.

I still wake up in night sweats thinking I’m in a hospital bed hooked up to machines. I still have flashbacks of feeling helpless as I spent many nights in the hospital with doctors and nurses looking over me in bewilderment. I still see my kids, family, and husband’s faces as they saw me helpless and sick. But, through it all, God was with me. I am still in awe of our Creator for pulling me out of the pits of hell.

The Importance of Heart Health Month

I had no idea I had a rare genetic heart condition, but when it reared its ugly head it did a number on my mind, body, and spirit. I shouldn’t be here to talk about it, but I am! That is why I can’t let a February go by without reminding all of you to take care of yourself, get yourself checked frequently with a doctor, and listen to your body, always!!! You are worth it! Your family is worth it. They want you here with them!

Not to use a scare tactic, but heart disease and heart disorders do not discriminate. I was young and still am. I took care of myself and still do. I’m eating all of the right things, exercising, and doing all of the “things” that healthy people should do.

Listen to your body always. If you feel something is off, call a doctor and don’t be afraid to mention everything you noticed that is different. This is key, because so many women look over symptoms since they are caregivers themselves or they don’t tell their doctor the whole truth due to feeling embarrassed or feeling like a wimp. Get over it sista! I say that as sweetly as possible, but it is better to be safe than sorry. It could be a matter of life and death! The matter of YOUR life! So take it seriously, my friend!

In honor of being alive, I will be wearing my red for Heart Health Month and showing support to so many who have lost the battle. I thank God every single day that I did not lose the battle. I am still fighting and am striving to keep bothering you and annoying my family for a long time to come. You are very welcome! 🙂

Now go and take your health seriously. This website alone is packed full of healthy goodness. You are worth it! Love you, my friends!
